The Manual Handling Operations Regulations do not set any weight limits for lifting and carrying loads and amendments in 2002 now require employees to have adequate or appropriate knowledge or training in order to make assessments to judge whether safe moving is possible. The regulations apply to almost all work environments from offices to care homes and factories.
The qualification includes:
- The reasons for safe moving and handling
- The importance of risk assessment
- The principles of safe manual handling
- The safe application of manual handling skills
The qualification provides an effective means of ensuring that employees are aware of their responsibilities and understand the principles of the safe moving and lifting of loads.

This accredited qualification is designed to introduce the principles of risk assessment. It covers why risk assessments are necessary, the legal requirements relating to them and simple processes for carrying them out.

This accredited qualification is designed for learners who have a responsibility to conduct risk assessments at low risk premises.
It covers the principles of risk assessment, the relationship between hazard and risk and requires learners put into practice the knowledge learned on the course by undertaking a risk assessment, therefore laying a foundation for further development as a risk assessor.

The HABC Level 1 Awards in Health and Safety have been developed to ensure that employees are equipped with a basic knowledge of health and safety in their workplace, including the duties under UK health and safety legislation.
These qualifications require no former knowledge of Health and Safety and are therefore ideal as part of a company health and safety induction programme, but it could also form part of ongoing refresher training designed to improve the health and safety culture in a workplace.

Achievement of this accredited qualification will enable learners to work safely and to recognise and deal with hazards in the workplace. The aim of the qualification is to provide candidates with knowledge of the basic health and safety practices essential in the workplace. This includes the hazards and risks along with the relevant legislation, and ensures awareness of cost-effective, practical control methods.
This qualification is applicable for any private or public sector working environment and provides employees with an awareness of their own safety, as well as the safety of customers, contractors and members of the public.

This accredited qualification provides progression from the Level 2 Award and is intended principally for those who work in a supervisory or managerial role. Individuals gaining this qualification will gain a wide range of knowledge of health and safety law, the hazards present in a workplace and how to implement effective and necessary controls.
This qualification is applicable to any private or public sector working environment. Individuals working towards this qualification will learn that supervisors and managers have legal and moral obligations to ensure health and safety within a business and that these include obligations to employees, contractors, suppliers and members of the public.

The qualification is intended for learners already working in the capacity of supervisor or manager and those who are preparing to start work at this level. In order to achieve this qualification, individuals must successfully construct a risk assessment and a safe system of work as well as pass the HABC examination.
This qualification has been developed specifically for insertion into the Qualifications and Credit Framework with full support from Proskills. It is therefore fully relevant to industry and regulatory standards, as well as being recognised by the Health and Safety Executive, independent auditors and enforcement officers.
